The project included the cleanup and restructuring of the Active Directory and the file system over a period of 24 months.
The main goals were to revise a complex directory structure that had grown over 20 years, to redesign authorizations and to ensure audit-proof data archiving. Key challenges included dealing with structures and permissions that were too deep, long paths that prevented files from being opened, and a large proportion of outdated data.
The solution strategy included archiving obsolete data, removing outdated permissions, building new permission structures and moving data into a new, flatter structure.
The concept of data separation was implemented to optimize and manage the directory structure.
