During the 12-month project, 2.800 client computers were migrated from Open Enterprise Server (formerly Novell) to Active Directory. Numerous challenges were overcome: synchronization was established between non-integrated client computers that were only accessible via VPN due to COVID-19, overly complex directory structures were cleaned up, and inconsistencies in account names between Novell and AD were resolved.
In addition, a new directory structure and an authorization concept were established, servers were added to the domain, an authorization management system was introduced and user profile directories were transferred to desktops.
challenges:
- There is no sync between OES and AD
- Client computers were not members of the domain
- Due to Corona, all client computers were at the user's home and only had a connection to the local network via VPN
- Extremely grown directory structures
- High degree of dependencies between applications and the file system
- Names of accounts in the OES did not match the accounts in AD
- The servers were also not members of the domain
- There was no authorization concept yet
- No software distribution
- No documentation
Solution:
- All OES/Microsystems directory structures were included migRaven.one made visually evaluable
- Obsolete data was deleted immediately: Rate: 40%
- Computer was added to the domain
- Accounts have been reconciled
- New directory structure was designed and coordinated with departments
- New authorization concept was established
- Authorization management system was introduced
- User profile directories on the desktops have been adopted
