Hybrid data strategy with migRaven.Archiver for teams

Microsoft Teams has become an integral part of the everyday work of many companies – but what happens to the growing mountains of data in the cloud?

The focus was on key issues related to data protection, control, cost efficiency, and the strategic handling of unstructured information. The tool supports companies in developing hybrid data strategy to establish – for more transparency and sovereignty over one’s own information landscape.

In the product webinar on March 18, 2025, CEO Thomas Gomell presented the migRaven.Archiver for Teams a new solution that enables Teams data to be transferred from the cloud back to your own infrastructure.

The webinar at a glance: Starting point, goal & solution

The webinar on March 18, 2025, was dedicated to a highly topical challenge: the return of data from Microsoft Teams back to the local IT infrastructure. Host Thomas Gomell presented the new version 1.0 of the migRaven.Archiver for Teams – a database-driven web application that helps companies establish hybrid data strategies.

Key question: Why bring Teams data back from the cloud?
At a time when many companies are migrating their data to the cloud, the webinar presented a deliberately counter-intuitive approach. Thomas Gomell explained in a practical way why there are good reasons to store Teams data locally again:

  • Data protection & control: The cloud means dependence – especially on Microsoft. Legal uncertainties and a lack of transparency regarding data sovereignty were identified as risks.
  • Availability & reliability: Geographical outages of Microsoft services and local internet problems can jeopardize productivity.
  • Cost explosions: Cloud storage is expensive – especially for unstructured data in office documents with no lasting use.
  • Structural chaos: Uncontrolled growth in teams leads to duplicates, inefficient collaboration and security problems.

What makes the migRaven.Archiver for teams makes special
The solution presented makes it possible to migrate data from Teams channels to file servers in a structured manner – either as a ZIP archive or in the original folder structure.
The application:

  • works with Microsoft’s Cloud API for authentication and data collection,
  • provides role-based access with security and approval overview,
  • allows granular archiving down to channel level,
  • offers monitoring, logging and a simple user interface for IT departments.

Practical benefits: When it is particularly worthwhile to use
In addition to addressing security concerns, migRaven.Archiver was also highlighted as a tool for data consolidation in mature Teams structures. Especially in companies with decentralized storage or a lack of governance, the tool offers the possibility of systematically archiving old Teams data and cost-effectively storing unstructured data in local storage.

License model and setup
The application is licensed on a per-user basis (€2/user) and is ready for use within one hour. A key for cloud authentication is required. Future enhancements based on customer feedback are planned, such as integration with additional cloud services like AWS.

Conclusion
The webinar showed how companies can use the migRaven.Archiver for Teams They can specifically reduce costs, increase security, and flexibly design their data strategy – beyond the cloud requirement. The hybrid solution offers an efficient and scalable alternative, especially for organizations with high data volumes, compliance requirements, or critical infrastructure.
